Test of cheap FullHD webcam from China with fast delivery from European warehouse
zveřejněno 2020-12-11
In the age of working from home and distance schooling, it is often necessary to transmit images, using a webcam. Due to the high demand, however, cheap cameras are unavailable in Czech e-shops. How will a cheap camera from AliExpress with fast delivery from a European warehouse fare?
Camera Selection
If you currently filter for FullHD (1920×1080 px) on, say, Alza, the offerings aren't much.

But if you can find a seller on AliExpress that has a warehouse in Europe, it's definitely an interesting option. For example, the FX7816 Global Store https://www.aliexpress.com/store/5588145 offers cameras like this. This is how you can find the following noname camera, for example https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4001366206485.html. Paper parameters are good - 1920x1080 resolution, price is the same - US $12.75 (equivalent to 287,16 CZK) and delivery 4-10 days (ordered on Friday, PPL delivered next Friday).

Test of webcam
In the package itself (no manufacturer is visible anywhere) there is only the webcam itself, and a paper with instructions. Fortunately, the installation itself is hassle-free - just plug it in, the drivers install themselves (tested on Windows 7).

Mechanically the camera looks good, no problem attaching it to the laptop, where it then sticks well on the lid. Thanks to the hinge, it can be rotated as needed. The USB cable is long enough, roughly about 1m.

I tested the camera on a Dell Latitude E6540 laptop, which features an integrated webcam. Of course, the laptop, and therefore the camera, are of an older date. Compared to the integrated one, the image from the tested USB camera is much clearer, more colorful - it just looks better. However, you can also see that it has a different focal length - whether that's a good thing or not is up to you.

Conclusion
For less than three hundred you can have a working FullHD webcam at home in a few days, which I think is a good deal. In Czech e-shops, the goods are overstocked, on top of the price of the camera you have to add shipping, or time spent at personal pick-up.
